Repair

To uninstall and reinstall SDL Trados Studio on the same computer you don't need to deactivate the license (unless you are also reformatting the hard disk).
However, there's an easier way. To reselect your 5 chosen languages close Studio, go to Windows Control Panel, select Studio and click "Repair". Re-open Studio and choose your languages.

Hi Emma thanks: I followed the procedure but it seems uneffective.... the repaired version reopens with the same 5 languages...

That's unlucky - it usually works. Looks like you'll have to uninstall and reinstall in that case.

Hi Emma, I uninstalled and reinstalled the package from scratch and settled new default languages.. Now it works. I confirm: no need to deactivate license... Current projects and plug-ins have been automatically restored.
Cheers Giovanni

Impossible to change the 5 default languages? (Solved)

I tried all these suggestions (and from other community forums), but it doesn't work. Some suggest editing the registry but also say it's risky, so I refrained from it.

So far I tried: uninstall/reinstall with license reset uninstall/reinstall without license reset removing any additional sdl program from my control panel, then reinstall repair the sdl from Control Panel
None worked, always the same languages stay there.
Have I missed something? Also, should this process be this cumbersome?
*Update, solved:
I logged into my administrator account and managed to repair SDL from Control panel, then edit language pairs. My previous attempts were from an additional, side account on my PC. I also noticed I was not "signed in" in my Trados in admin account, could this have helped the application of changes? Anyway, it's solved now.

Possible solution

SDL Trados Studio 2021 doesn't have any language restrictions. All languages included. However there is nothing dangerous in renaming a single folder. You don't even delete it. Just rename LDSRClient5 to LDSRClient5_old. (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\LDSRClient5) This is much easier than uninstalling and license resetting.
