A professional translator since 2005 and a gamer since early 90's, I have solid experience in localizing video games and everything related – in-game strings, box texts, QSGs, user manuals, video scripts, marketing and development blogs, etc.

I have been a gamer since around the time I got my first computer in the early 1990s.
Since 2008 I have been a freelancer, first working for Siemens Healthcare as a translator for medical equipment but decided to try to break into the games market as soon as possible. In 2010 I finally got the chance and became a tester for hidden object games and adventure RPGs. Currently I am lead localizer for my.com, working on MMORPGs like Skyforge, Allods Online and NetEase's Revelation Online.

My love for gaming was first established in 1987 when my brother bought a used C128 and some games with it. All through my high school and college years and even after joining the workforce on a full-time basis I remained an avid gamer and role-player. So I know the expectations of gamers and their passion for the games they love.

Before my translating career, I worked as a software developer for more than 25 years. My interest in games led to my focus on game localisations. I probably translate at least 200,000 words per year in the gaming sector alone. Since 2016 I am also translating novels, mostly fantasy. I have also worked with board game designers and done some creative writing of flavor texts. I am always aware of technical requirements and restrictions, and at the same time I can offer a creative final touch.

Having been an avid gamer for all of my life, I worked for Games Workshop as an in-house translator for three years prior to going freelance in 2015. Since then, I have translated about two million words of in-game text and participated in dozens of projects, from small indie games to AAA titles. I am familiar with translating all kinds of text you may come across in game projects, be it dialogue, quest and/or descriptional texts or UI strings. Latest title I worked on: DISCO ELYSIUM.

When I was still studying English, German & Journalism in 1999, I joined Blue Byte Software, a high-profile German games publisher and developer, for two years as Localization Manager. During the last 5 years I’ve been working full-time as a freelance translator with a focus on gaming and film & tv. Before I started freelancing I've worked 1 year as an in-house translator for Nintendo and as a linguistic & technical tester for CD Projekt in Warsaw. During my Liberal Arts studies at Utrecht University I was an editor for the biggest Dutch skate magazine, writing about games and music.
