Bio
I am a freelance translator translating from Spanish into English, specialising in two main areas: (1) Medical (developmental psychology, general medicine, healthcare, obstetrics and midwifery), and (2) Literature and the visual arts (19th and 20th century fiction, painting, architecture).

I also have experience translating texts on archaeology, history, education, the environment, botany, and tourism.

My main aim is to convey exactly what you said in Spanish in a way that seems completely natural, authoritative, and appropriate to your English readers and clients. Editing and proofreading is included in the cost of my translations.

I lived and worked in Spain for six years until 2014 and maintain a strong association with the country. I am academically qualified: BA (modern history), BSc (psychology, first class honours), MA (developmental psychology). I successfully completed a 10-unit Advanced Translator Training course (DipTrans level).

I also have over 20 years' experience working as a journalist and editor on British national newspapers, including The Times Educational Supplement.

I translate and edit academic articles, newspaper articles, books (fiction and non-fiction), catalogues, reports, websites, and personal documents. Whether you represent a large organisation, a small company or simply yourself, I will work with you to ensure that your work is conveyed in natural, convincing, and accurate English.

Previous clients have included UNESCO, architectural partnerships, academic researchers, healthcare professionals, and hotel and museum websites. I have experience translating Latin American Spanish as well as European Spanish, and am happy to translate into American as well as British English as required.

Recommendations:

"The standard of her translation work was very high.
What most stood out to me about her working ethic was her dedication to getting the right term, regardless of the research efforts required. Beyond this, she understood the Spanish texts on both a linguistic and cultural level. Her wide vocabulary and excellent written expression were a clear reflection of her many years working as a journalist and editor.
I don't hesitate to recommend Jo as a skilled, reliable collaborator."

Gwenydd Jones, MA, DipTransIoLET, MCIL, Spanish to English Translator and Trainer, Letraduct Translations.
