Bio

I've been a freelance translator since 2014 (part-time or full-time), translating from English to Czech and focusing on building my specialisation in legal translation, which led me to pursuing further career in law itself.

I have experience with a general mix of agency texts, cookbooks, lighter literature, European law translation and localisation.

I am interested in legal and art/literary translation, keen to work on my transcreation skills, but also enjoy post-editing jobs.

Recently, I've been awarded a honorary mention by the Czech Literary Translators' Guild for a short story translation (Jiří Levý Literary Translation Competition).

After I finish my law degree, I'll be able to offer services of a sworn translator.

In general, my focus is on quality and the richness of language, I'm creative and enjoy playing with words. In legal translation, I'm very detail-oriented and I'm able to do the necessary research to localise the translation according to its intended purpose as good as possible. Depending on the job, I can switch registers very well and I steer clear from areas I know nothing of. I don't fare well in technical translation.

As I'm not a native English speaker, I always use a proofreader for translations from Czech to English (four eyes principle).

I have experience working with Memsource and Trados.

Feel free to contact me for a consult or to see whether I can tackle your text.
