Those corticospinal fibers that synapse directly on lower motor neurons are supposedly those which control voluntary movement of the digits. It is damage to these fibers - resulting in the loss of voluntary movement of the digits - which is the most pronounced deficit resulting from corticospinal/pyramidal tract damage.
