Ο κύριος κίνδυνος είναι αν το σπασμένο δόντι επιχειρήσει να περάσει μέσα
από το σημείο σύμπλεξης των άλλων οδόντων του γραναζιού και φρακάρει τον οδηγό.
Οι ρωγμές μπορούν επίσης να δημιουργήσουν πρόβλημα όταν ξεκινούν πάνω στο μέσο
της εργαζόμενης πλευράς, συνήθως κοντά στην γραμμή του βήματος οδοντώσεως επί
του αρχικού κύκλου(pitch line)
