Tony Yes, Tony. You are right. Because I have already seen identical usages for "wet" and "dry" in the text such as wet site: a site which is believed to be vulnerable to flooding and vice versa.

@ Asker My understanding would be tubes that do not normally carry circulating water — so yes, they would not be 'wet'; I don't, however, know why they are 'dry' and exactly what they are used for — other than that it is presumably for internal access to the reactor core during operation.

Yes! I did guess that the full expression is in-core monitor dry tubes. Do dry tubes mean those tubes that are not wet?

@ Asker I suspect (but it is only a hunch!) that you need to consider the expression 'in-core monitor dry tubes' as a whole — I've a feeling that these are 'dry tubes' used for 'in-core monitoring' — but I stand to be corrected!
