Russian term

Размещение информации ...

Russian to English Other Internet, e-Commerce
Is there a difference between
Размещение информации на Интернет-странице XXX
and
Рассылка через электронные рассылочные листы YYY

Are they both "posting information on XXX/YYY's Internet sites"? What exactly are электронные рассылочные листы ?

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Dec 2, 2004:
* I mean, do they get the email addresses from the federal centre, or are these email addresses of the federal centre?
Non-ProZ.com Dec 2, 2004:
* I'm still not clear: the actual text is: Does this mean "distributing via electronic distribution lists [posh way of saying email, I suppose] OF or TO the Federal AIDS Centre???
Jack Doughty Dec 2, 2004:
I would think the first is as you say, and for the second I think I would say "sending (or sending out) via electronic distribution lists", but that's only a suggestion, I am not that confident about any of this.
Non-ProZ.com Dec 2, 2004:
* So is the former, "posting information on XXX's Internet site", and the latter "posting/distribution [which?] to/through/from/via [which?] electronic distribution lists of YYY"?

Posting information

It seems to me that the first expression is as you say, posting on an Internet page, and the other is "from electronic distribution lists" (I am assuming that the word "лист" is used in the English meaning "list" rather than "sheet") - the sort of thing you are offered on websites which have millions of addresses on such lists - very usefule for spammers and scammers.

via email lists

It is, essentially, "sending to email lists" or "distributing/delivering via email lists".

I believe the wording in "electronic mailing lists" is intended to make things look more complex (and more important) than they are.

->

I always thought mailing lists were simply lists of people's e-mail adresses, where information is sent by email.

Razmeshenie is posting.
