It should be emphasized that this is a peculiar feature of education in modern society. It is possible to define education very broadly as all forms of socialization that occur after primary socialization has been completed (if one prefers, all forms of secondary socialization). In that case, of course, education is a well-nigh universal phenomenon. What is peculiar about education in our society, however, is that it is in fact administrated by formal organizations that have no other purpose except education. Education, in other words, is seperately institutionalized, and by the same token is segregated from other spheres of social life. Specifically, education is segregated from the family which, in earlier times, carried out many of the activities that now fall under the jurisdiction of the formal educational system. Thus the crossing of a threshold that we have just described is not a universal human experience but one that is peculiar to modern society. In the latter, however, it is a crucially important experience. For many years, ranging from childhood through youth into early adulthood, the educational system is the most important large institution with which the individual must deal. But even after he is formally released from its jurisdiction (at whatever stage of the educational ladder he finally attains), this does not mean that he is finished with education as such. In one way or another, educational organization and educational activities will pursue him into adult life.

Πρέπει να τονίσουμε ότι αυτή είναί μια ιδιαίτερη πτυχή της εκπαίδευσης στη σύγχρονη κοινωνία. Μπορούμε να ορίσουμε την εκπαίδευση πολύ ευρέως ως κάθε μορφή κοινωνικοποίησης που λαμβάνει χώρα αφού ολοκληρωθεί η πρωτογενής κοινωνικοποίηση, ή αλλιώς στη διάρκεια της δευτερογενούς κοινωνικοποίησης. Σε αυτή την περίπτωση φυσικά, η εκπαίδευση είναι σχεδόν παγκόσμιο φαινόμενο. Παρ' όλα αυτά, το ιδιαίτερο με την εκπαίδευση στην κοινωνία μας είναι ότι στην ουσία την διαχειρίζονται επίσημοι οργανισμοί που δεν έχυν κανέναν άλλο σκοπό πέρα από την ίδια την εκπαίδευση. Source text - Greek Στις φανταστικές ιστορίες είναιεύκολο κάποιος από δημόσιος λειτουργός να γίνει πολιτικός, υποστηριζόμενος από ένα δίκτυο φίλων συνεργατών, που θα ανταποδίδουν εξυπηρετήσεις για το κοινό καλό, βεβαίως. Είναι εύκολο να σχεδιαστούν έργα, τεράστια και μεγαλόπνοα, και να πραγματοποιηθούν ταχύτατα - και με τη συνδρομή των δικών μας ανθρώπων, βεβαίως. Αξιοκρατικά. Χωρίς να τους χαριστεί κάτι. Έτσι και στην ιστορία μας. Τίποτα δεν χαρίστηκε στο φίλο που ήξερε από πριν τους όρους του "παιχνιδιού" και ανταγωνίστηκε τους συμπαίκτες του "επί ίσοις όροις". Μπορεί κι αυτός που διαμαρτύρεται ότι υπήρξε, για παράδειγμα, συναλλαγή μεταξύ δημόσιου φορέα και εκδοτικού οίκου, ο οποίος συμμετείχε σε διαγωνισμό προκήρυξης σχολικών βιβλίων (ένα παράδειγμα λέμε), να έκανε άλλοτε ίδια και χειρότερα. Ως ειδικός γραμματέας, ας πούμε, του αρμόδιου υπουργείου και έχων πρόσβαση στα χειρόγραφα κρατικού βιβλίου πριν αυτό τυπωθεί από τον ΟΕΔΒ, να εξέδιδε και να πωλούσε πρώτος στην αγορά σχολικά βοηθήματα. Έπειτα να έπειθε τον δημόσιο φορέα να αγοράσει αντίτυπα!

The same happens in our story. No favours have been done for our friend who knew from the beginning tha terms of the "game" and tried to compete against the other players on equal terms. Everything but favoured was another player who spoke openly about others who "were stacking the cards against him". Theey threatened him with "battle" to the bitter end.
There was one more player who protested. Yet, in imaginary stories it can be that not even one of the sides is clean. It may be that neither of them is. It still may be that even he, who protests about dealings between the public body and the public house that took part in a contest for authoring school books, he could be responsible for similar or worse acts at some point. Maybe once, as secretary of that ministry and having had access to the manuscript of the book before this had been published, he published and sold companions in the market. Afterwards, he persuaded the public body to buy copies!
