From "The Synthesis of language" by Martin Lings.

Countless altogether illiterate men have been masters of highly elaborate languages:I am inclined to think that dialect the best which is spoken by the most illiterate in the islands . . . men with clear heads and wonderful memories, generally very poor and old, living in remote corners of remote islands, and speaking only Gaelic. (2The ability of oral tradition to transmit great masses of verse for hundreds of years is proved and admitted. . . . To this oral literature, as the French call it, education is no friend. Culture destroys it, sometimes with amazing rapidity. When a nation begins to read . . . what was once the possession of the folk as a whole becomes the heritage of the illiterate only, and soon, unless it is gathered up by the antiquary, vanishes altogether.(3If we have to single out the factor, which caused the decline of English village culture we should have to say it was literacy. (4In the New Hebrides "the children are educated by listening and watching . . . without writing, memory is perfect, tradition exact. The growing child is caught all that is known. . . . Songs are a form of storytelling. . . . The layout and content in the thousand myths which every child learns (often word perfect, and one story may last for hours) are a whole library . . . the hearers are held in a web of spun words. " They converse together "with that accuracy and pattern of beauty in words chat we have lost. . . . The natives easily learn to write after white impact. They regard it as a curious and useless performance. They say, “Cannot a man remember and speak?' " (5

Songar vert ei form for sogeforteljing ..... (5

Bio
Norwegiantrans ANS, founded in 2005, is a direct continuation of Roald Toskedal's former one-man Company, R. Toskedal DAK-konsult. The Company is a General Partnership, 100% owned and managed by Roald Toskedal and Reidun Toskedal as partners. The Company is based and registered in Norway and is thus operating under Norwegian legislation.

By 2006, we have a total of 8 years experience as translators, yet our skills and knowledge extend a great deal further than that.

Roald has had a long career (27 years) as an Engineer in various industrial fields, mainly in Electronics and Telecommunications, but also in (Electronic/Mechanical) marine engineering disciplines, e.g. Shipbuilding and Sub-sea Robotics. Due to his extensive knowledge from various technical fields and trade languages, he holds the position as our Senior Translator and QA Manager and is personally approving every single word in Norwegian that is leaving our offices.

Reidun is our General Manager and is handling all customer contact, job scheduling, and project follow-up. Reidun is college educated in Pedagogics and holds a Bachelor Degree in Preschool Teaching.
She has 6 years of translator experience and has been working on projects ranging from sewing machines to rock crushing plants. Obviously, she has not become a full-fledged Engineer from this experience, yet she has gained extensive insight into translating technical manuals and other fields, such as marketing texts, financial reports, and several other fields.

Add to this, we all have extensive experience and knowledge in using the pertaining software, e.g. all MS Office applications, Trados CAT tool, Adobe Acrobat and various other applications.

We charge $0.18/EUR 0.14 per source word as a standard, but we are open to negotiations on special unit/project prices.
