Dear Colleagues,
With the passage of time, I have become slightly paranoid about the security of my computer. I am loaded with a good anti virus and a firewall. However, I would like to know if there are any spyware programs on my computer and would like to learn about trustworthy names.

I would not mind any paid program. I have ETrust Antivirus with its firewall right now. I have had Norton in the past but once through a colleague, I probably got the Badtrans worm despite having it and updating the reference files, some 2-3 times a day.
I just got X-Cleaner professional from http://www.xblock.com/ but as I said, I feel there's no harm in being extra secure.

My husband is an engineer and quite finicky about his computer equipment. We use this in conjunction with Norton, but you have to run it every so often (every week).

I second SpyBot too; having a good antivirus and firewall, I think SpyBot can do the rest. At least it has helped me a lot.

I tried AdAware, Spybot, Boolet proof. The most complete seems to be Pest Patrol. It protects not only removes, it even checks memory.

It may sound quite paranoid, but thats actually what I use. I control cookies and programs with the firewall, needless to say, and Spybot cleans the rest.
McAffee antivirus, properly updated, also detects "malicious programs" that could reach your computer via e-mail, IM transfer or download.
