a very useful tip | Jun 14, 2008 |
Hello, Another tip that I find more than useful for redondant words is: Imagne that you have the word "Telecommunications" which is repeated a lot in your document, and as a human being you'd rather win some time by just typin something shorter, you just have to highlight it and press ALT+F3, you'll be prompted for a shortcut let's use "tel", then whenever you write "tel" just press F3 tadaaaaa... I hope it helped. Best regards,

[Edited at 2008-06-14 20:06] This can be achieved easily using "Autocorrect" too, in the "Tools" menu. Type in your short form, e.g. "telc" for "telecommunications", and thereafter every time you type "telc", Word will write "telecommunications". Extremely useful for words with lots of fussy accents and so on, e.g. "socgen" for "Société Générale". You can, of course, delete the short forms from your "Autocorrect" list any time you want to. Another useful shortcut is Ctr + +(plus sign) for subscript and Ctr+Shift+ + for superscript. | |

Autocorrect and Multiterm | Jun 16, 2008 |
The advantage of Autocorrect as suggested by Jenny Forbes is that you don't have to move your fingers from the 'home key ' position (always a source of typos for me...) - The other method I use is Multiterm. Things like days of the week & months - without caps in source language, with and sometimes spelled differently in target... just insert them as required, no more pestember, cOtober NOvember DEcmeber .... ... Then any clients whose names turn up reguarly, with preferred titles: e.g. does the 'big boss' call himself Managing Director or CEO, and which one of the others is the Finance Manager - or was (s)he the CFO? I used to look for them in the concordance, but found it well worthwhile adding them to Multiterm at the second or third appearance. Thanks for all the other tips everyone - I'll try them out! ▲ Collapse | | | customizing keyboard shortcuts in Word | Jun 16, 2008 |

The official list of MS Word shortcuts: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290938 Some you know, others you probably didn't! Thanks ever so much. I knew about the caps change (it is in the Format (?) menu and you can even create a button for it if you use it a lot and don't want to have to dig it up from the menu every time, or remember the shortcut.) But this full shortcut list is new to me and potentially very useful. | | | Pages in topic: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » A really useful tip: how to toggle between CAPS, no caps and Initial Caps Trados Studio 2022 Freelance | The leading translation software used by over 270,000 translators.
