Source text - Portuguese FOR the most wild, yet most homely narrative which I am about to pen, I neither expect nor solicit
belief. Mad indeed would I be to expect it, in a case where my very senses reject their own
evidence. Yet, mad am I not - and very surely do I not dream. But to-morrow I die, and to-day I
would unburthen my soul. My immediate purpose is to place before the world, plainly, succinctly,
and without comment, a series of mere household events. In their consequences, these events have
terrified - have tortured - have destroyed me. Yet I will not attempt to expound them. To me, they
have presented little but Horror - to many they will seem less terrible than barroques. Hereafter,
perhaps, some intellect may be found which will reduce my phantasm to the common-place - some
intellect more calm, more logical, and far less excitable than my own, which will perceive, in the
circumstances I detail with awe, nothing more than an ordinary succession of very natural causes
and effects.
Translation - Portuguese Não solicito ou espero pela crença do leitor da selvagem, porém familiar história que estou prestes a escrever. Eu seria louco ao esperar por isso, em um caso que meus próprios sentidos rejeitam as evidências. Porém não sou louco, e estou certo de que não estou sonhando. Mas se eu morrer amanhã, hoje eu gostaria de aliviar esse fardo de minha alma. Minha proposta é de apresentar ao mundo, clara e sucintamente, e sem comentários, uma série de meros acontecimentos domésticos. As consequências de tais eventos, torturaram-me e destruíram-me. No entanto, não tentarei explicá-los. Para mim, eles representam nada além de horror, a muitos outros eles parecem menos terríveis do que extravagantes. Futuramente, talvez, pode ser encontrada alguma inteligência que reduza minha fantasia à uma banalidade, algum intelecto mais calmo, lógico e menos entusiasmado do que o meu, que entenderá as circunstâncias que hoje detalho boquiaberto, tão somente como nada mais do que uma ordinária sucessão natural de causas e efeitos.

I started my english studies at the age of 15, and by the age of 18, I became an english teacher.
The translations called my attention when I was constantly asked by other people the meanings of words, that made me realize that becoming a translator was going to be my next step.
