I already have a cleaning lady for the house (could use one for the office though), I outsource accounting and anything linked to computers, network with collaborators and my son is too old for a nanny... If I were rich, I might hire a week-end/hobby/holiday companion

I do already have a cleaning lady (twice a week, 2x 2 hours) and a proofreader/secretary (5days a week, 6 hours a day), the thing I need next is somebody to help me in my garden, or perhaps a cook. ... but I changed my mind (I can afford it). The problem is, I get paranoid about security (I'm one of those paper-shredders). Worst-case scenario: what if the cleaning lady started a bank run based on documents she had read on my lectern? (Sure, I'm paranoid, but "lying around" can get out of control in a one-person outfit). | | | John Cutler Spain Local time: 09:51 Spanish to English + ...
I'd hire people in this order: 1. A good collaborator (It's so hard to find good help these days.) 2. A personal trainer (One of those ones who yells in your face and tells you to stop being such a wimp.) 3. A cleaning person (Don't you hate dusting?!)

A driver would be good. I already have a cleaner and I also work with other professionals (accountant and translators).

John Cutler wrote: 1. A good collaborator (It's so hard to find good help these days.) So true. John Cutler wrote: 2. A personal trainer (One of those ones who yells in your face and tells you to stop being such a wimp.) Maybe not one who "yells" at you, but definitely one who takes no excuse for an answer. But since I cannot afford one, I get by with Nintendo's Wii sports, which includes a choice of personal trainer. John Cutler wrote: 3. A cleaning person (Don't you hate dusting?!) I hate dusting, but at home we prefer to spend that money on other things, so we take turns about cleaning. | | | Swimming Pool | Jul 31, 2009 |
The one thing I haven't got that would be really helpful and relaxing. The one I had in NY was a joy, but parts, supplies and competent maintenance there were relatively cheap; plus it was fed by an underground spring. I have a secretary/assistant, cleaning lady, plenty of attorneys and accountants who owe me favors, but a pool would be a godsend where the year-round temps are between 14C and 29C. Unfortunately, not only its proper construction ( for a decent few-hundred meter square pool)... See more The one thing I haven't got that would be really helpful and relaxing. Or preferably someone who could do the lot! | | | Other - two roles - possibly in one? | Jul 31, 2009 |
Someone to do the running repairs at home and in the office (almost invariably little jobs which either I could do myself, or which seem hardly worth the call-out fee for a technician). And someone to do all the small mending jobs on our clothes. Buttons, torn seams, little holes to darn, hems come unsewn, taking up new trousers... Of course I can do almost all of this, but do I? Mainly, no. There is always sth a little more urgent, but seeing it all waiting to be done... Mainly, no. There is always sth a little more urgent, but seeing it all waiting to be done probably brings down the quality of my life! Oh, and I would like to have a secretary who actually files. I am resigned to the fact that my long-term secretary, whom I inherited 14 years ago, (and who, to give her the credit she deserves, is the most fantastic receptionist) will never do this, however many times I tell her to - and she's still 15 years away from retirement!! Perhaps next week I shall get round to doing some of the jobs mentioned above. It has to be said that I get a huge amount of satisfaction when I actually do get round to doing these things.
