Winnerの皆様、おめでとうございます。日本に住んでおりますと、日曜でも商業施設は、大方が開業していて、一人でも過ごせる所が多く、
こうした独り身の哀愁というのは、実感しづらいもので、その差の見極めがこの翻訳の難所と思われます。

そこで、a small kidは、所在なげに空き缶を蹴りながらの一人遊びの子供という、寂しい思いをする作者のミラーイメージですので、
不定冠詞のaは訳出する必要があり、「今朝の1本目をくゆらせりゃ　あの小僧も独りぼっちか　遊び仲間は足で蹴飛ばす空きカンか」あたりはいかがでしょう。
And there's nothing short a' dyingは、燃やしてしまうのが普通の日本では、すぐには思いつきませんが、おそらく墓の下の棺桶の中で一人、
横たわる寂しさの隠喩で、独り者にとっては、日曜の街角の寂しさがそれをしのぐと次の節で詠うのです。
例えば、「墓の下なら孤独にゃ事欠かないが　さびしさなら喧噪絶えた街角がはるかに上だ」。
canyonは、Winnerのお一人が「ビルの谷間」とされておられたように、街の通りを谷になぞらえていますので、
ただ単に「谷間」や「渓谷」では、意味不明のような気がします。
というわけで、独り者のペーソスが主旨であることを見抜くかどうかがポイントでした。
