But only inasmuch as I Have translated about very widespread products, such as McDonalds and Whiskas, not that I have been influenced by product advertising I have translated.

I was so impressed by my own marketing blurb (!) that I sought out a particular French face cream... and have been using it ever since. (And I thought I was immune to advertising, shows how much of a sucker I am really).

Yes, dairy products! Jul 27, 2011

Food on a menu, unique and 'serica' glass (which is probably art, not a product, but still!). And ordinary cheese and dairy products. Pectin for jam-making... and very probably others. I have translated quite a lot of consumer information over the years and don't remember it all.

One range of products I translate about, but do NOT buy are cosmetics! They are probably fine if you use them. In fact, assuming they comply with their content descriptions and instructions for use, they are excellent quality and have the least possible environmental impact. However, I am intolerant to several perfumes and prefer to keep to a different, non-allergenic range of toiletries.

I haven't yet, but I do want to. I have translated a children's book that I would like for my kids. I also edited a book about maps that I know my friend would love.

The social sciences literature that I have translated has been offered to me for free, so that's nice.

I was a babywearing mom, babywearing advocate, and I already owned one of a well known Polish brand woven wraps when the company owners came to me for translation of some stuff for them (various parts of instruction manuals, some website content, some marketing material).

On the other hand, as a banking & finance, and legal translator, I guess it is hard not to get across any banking products, or not to sign a single agreement in your life......

Said no, but... Jul 27, 2011

Christine's comment reminded me that after translating menus I am drawn to new "varieties" on the market, such as, recently, purple fleshed potatoes.

I have also been known to experiment in the kitchen, basing myself on descriptions of menu dishes I have translated. Sometimes successfully, sometimes not - you win some you lose some!!
