I'm not sure yet Sep 9, 2017

But in all probability I will not be working as this year it falls on a Saturday…

Not sure Sep 9, 2017

I rarely work on Saturdays.

I might see if I can attend some local-ish translation related event.

Probably working, as I tend to do a bit of work most days, although I took a whole day off last weekend.

Depends on when that is... Sep 9, 2017

Have no clue when International Translation Day is, and to be very honest, I cannot see how it would affect my life in any way.

What will be next?
Internation Baking Day?
International Carpentry Day?
International Road-sweeping Day?

I don't get it... What is it FOR??

Allergy to international days of anything Sep 9, 2017

Being the skeptic that I am, I won't be “celebrating” any international day of any kind this year or the year after. Now, if bookstores, translation journals or publications catering to translators would like to offer a serious discount, I might be game.

Does it fall on a Saturday? Well, like my colleagues here, I might be translating and doing one or more of the following:

a) Watching a Game of Thrones episode (I just discovered the series via streaming)
b)

b) Drinking copious amounts of coffee and tea
c) Watching cartoons
d) Listening to vinyl records of jazz and classical music
e) Wishing it rained more often in Cleveland, Ohio

What?? Sep 10, 2017

All these dates have been invented for commercial purposes. It's a day like any other. How about not finding any more excuses not to work?

"Taking a day off" (Saturday) Sep 12, 2017

For those surprised by International Translation Day, it is simply St Jerome's day, patron saint of translators.

The UN declared 30 September as International Translation Day in order to highlight the role of professional translation in international cooperation, it's not really a commercial holiday

This year, it falls on a Saturday so I answered "Taking a day off" because by default I don't work weekends.

On other years, I have "celebrated" International Translation Day by (.....drumroll) translating and sending out invoices, because it's the last day of the month.
