Hello all,

The United States National Security Agency (NSA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) recently published a compendium to warn businesses that the current generative AI technologies may be and have been deployed in scam attempts. Generative AI technologies here does not exclusively refer to large language models like ChatGPT or Bard. I’ve yet to encounter one in our language industry, but records of such incidents can be found in other sectors. It might be only a matter of time until crooks start to take advantage of AI to swindle individual freelance translators and translation agencies. PDF is available via the link below:

If you spotted a translation scam which you suspect is AI assisted, feel free to post your finding in this thread. It would help us all to profile the attackers by studying their modi operandi and evaluate how resourceful they are. The hope is to prevent as many language service providers as possible from falling victim to their schemes.

Stay safe.

Ciao
