Apparently, this belonged to my Grandmother, who died before I was born, and my father's kept it all these years. He gave it to me the other day, and I asked him what it said. He either didn't know or didn't want to tell me, because I didn't get an answer.

The text is a verse from the Quran, specifically verse 255 from Surat al-Baqara chapter.
The verse is known as "Ayat al-Kursi" (Verse of the Throne) and is often recited to seek God's protection, calm somebody etc.
للّهُ لاَ إِلَـهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ لاَ تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلاَ نَوْمٌ لَّهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ مَن ذَا ال�... See more The text is a verse from the Quran, specifically verse 255 from Surat al-Baqara chapter.

Here's one translation (Shakir):
Allah is He besides Whom there is no god, the Everliving, the Self-subsisting by Whom all subsist; slumber does not overtake Him nor sleep; whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is His; who is he that can intercede with Him but by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they cannot comprehend anything out of His knowledge except what He pleases, His knowledge extends over the heavens and the earth, and the preservation of them both tires Him not, and He is the Most High, the Great. ▲ Collapse

This verse is commonly worn as a protection. It is called Ayat ul Kursi or the verse of the throne

Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu) narrated; In Surah al-Baqaraah there is an ayah which is the best of all the ayahs of the Qur’an. It is never recited in a house but the Shaytan leaves: Ayat al-Kursi.
Everything has its pinnacle and the pinnacle of the Qur’an is Surah al-Baqarah. In it there is an ayah which is the greatest in the Qur’an: Ayat al-Kursi
