You haven't said what the machine is, though it presumably involves drilling. As Duncan points out in the discussion entries, it's probably the "groupe" that has a gravity return. And the latter means that it returns to its starting position by the force of gravity rather than, say, a spring.

the "groupe", whatever it is, is integrated into the machine under the diamond point, with a gravity return.
The gravity return has nothing directly to do with the diamond point.
At least not from how I'm reading it at the moment.
