fournisseur douteux/peu fiable

We haven't much context, but this is how I read it

agree Antoine Dequidt : douteux

sans doute, merci!
neutral Tony M : I think this expresses a judgemental tone that is not at all intended in the original; we don't know WHAT kind of risk is involved, but in business terms, it's not at all the same as someone's being (e.g.) a 'dodgy individual'

Fournisseur peu recommandable

Suggestion.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : I think that would be too judgemental in register to be usable in this business context. / No, still to judgemental in a business context, where 'risk' doesn't have the everyday connotation.

Can we say "peu fiable"?

Note from asker:
il s'agit ici de sélectionner des fournisseurs en fonction de certains critères, et certains sont donc ainsi des 'risky suppliers' contrairement aux 'capable suppliers'. merci.

neutral AllegroTrans : Isn't it the customer who would be at risk from a "risky supplier"??

Yes, it is. Precisely.

agree Tony M : I don't agree with A/T's point: something is 'à risque' can be for the user: 'which bears a risk' as well as someone who is 'at risk'.

Thanks Tony :) In this context, "fournisseur à risque" means that the supplier represents a risk for the client. Besides, it's more "business talk" and neutral than other wordings that may sound more judgemental as you have already sensed.
