pour répondre à Delphine, il s'agit d'un convoyeur tunnel utilisé dans les mines par exemple. Il est doté d'un tapis roulant permettant d'acheminer les débris en dehors du site.
It sounds as if it might possibly be referring to the safety feature that the machine cannot be started (or will stop) if there is no driver in the seat — like a ride-on lawnmower, for example.
However, it is used rather oddly here, which might imply some other meaning; I can only think of 'to ride on' in the sense of 'to keep going (when you think you have stopped)' — but that doens't really make a great deal more sense to me here either...
