Most vehicles used 18:58 Feb 26, 2023
by waste and recycling companies for collecting rubbish have some system to "lift" whatever they are collecting and load it into the vehicle, so "a lift" in their jargon would simply be "une collecte".
unplanned lift = une collecte à un point de ramassage initialement non-inclus dans la ronde
extra lift = une collecte plus importante que prévue (10 sacs au lieu de 5, p.ex.)
So, in fact you have there TWO TERMS - related but separate terms.
"unplanned lift" is about collecting waste from a location that wasn't included in the round trip when it started, which may lead to some additional travel - or not - but anyway the point is in "collecting waste" NOT in how much travel it involves, so any mention of "trajets" is beside the point (à côté de la plaque).
Another way of proving it:
"[with tools to] ... document and record unplanned or extra lifts, drivers have the tools to maximize revenue capture"
Waste and recycling companies **get paid for collecting waste**, NOT for the trip to the collection point, so to "maximize revenue" what counts is "collecting waste" so "a lift" has to be "une collecte", not the driving around.
