English term

logjam

English to German Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation Jetsprinting
Event: Parker Enzed New Zealand Jetsprinting Championship 2006?, Gisbourne, Round 3

Commentary: "Well as we leave Round 3 at Gisborne, you will see there is breathing room at the top of the table now. Just the 1 point in it between Rex Briant and Simon Campbell, then there is a bit of a gap back to Garry Smith and then a LOGJAM for 4th, between Duncan Wilson and Richard Burt. Plenty of rounds to go in the Championships."

Thank you, once again!

stecken (auf Platz 4) fest

maybe also as an in-between suggestion: two can have a "Gerangel" = fight for a spot, pushing each other.

Die A-Junioren von HSV und FC St. Pauli stecken weiter im Tabellenkeller der Junioren-Bundesliga fest.

I also thought of "totes rennen" but don't think it would fit because this is in regards to their temporary standings.

xx und xx haben sich festgefahren /sind blockiert

I searched everywhere for the right term, this is the closest I can find; it means that the two boats are so close that it is hard to tell which one is first; the term is normally used in a standstill in negotiations or in traffic; I'm not sure whether this sounds "nautical" enough here. Maybe it's a start
Peer comment(s):

neutral Lars Helbig : Since the table is only an abstract statistical representation of their performance, I don't think anything like blocking is really appropriate here. Their relative standings can't influence each other directly. Logjam itself is already pushing it.

Gedränge

Instead of trying to translate the image of many logs getting jammed up and while drifting down a stream I would translate with what was meant. I think 'Gedränge' gets the idea of several people being close to each and in reach of the fourth place.

= tie; sie teilen sich Platz vier

A "logjam" is really a very silly expression to use here, because it normally means a large number trying to use the same place or space, but here it's quite clearly only two competitors sharing the same (fourth) place in a sporting table.
