German term

beziehungsunfähig

German to English Marketing Advertising / Public Relations
I am searching for a snappy way of expressing this term in as few words as possible... It's proving a challenge, as I'm sure German scholars will appreciate. Would be grateful for any ideas. It's from a press release for a dating app.

Hattie Spence (asker) Feb 25, 2016:
Thanks to everyone for your thought-provoking suggestions and the time taken to think them up!!! Greatly appreciated.
BrigitteHilgner Feb 24, 2016:
philgoddard Feb 24, 2016:
This is still not really enough context, because it's not clear what this quote is doing in a text about a dating app. But you'll have to include the German with a translation in brackets, or paraphrase - "when my article on "the disconnected [or whatever] generation was published in a popular online magazine..."
Hattie Spence (asker) Feb 24, 2016:
"Als der Text „Generation Beziehungsunfähig“ in dem Online- Magazin Im Gegenteil veröffentlicht wurde, wurde er schon am ersten Abend so oft aufgerufen, dass der Server immer mal wieder nicht erreichbar war."
philgoddard Feb 24, 2016:
If it's a heading Please could we have the text below. Thanks.
Hattie Spence (asker) Feb 24, 2016:
It refers to an entire generation and is a heading - "Generation beziehungsunfähig", which refers to a recently-published book by a man called Michael Nast.
Ramey Rieger (X) Feb 24, 2016:
Yes, yes, yes Context, what paradise! what joy!
philgoddard Feb 24, 2016:
Yes, we need several sentences of context please. The literal meaning is incapable of relationships.
Ed Ashley Feb 24, 2016:
More context Does this adjective refer to a person?

agree Ed Ashley : Yes to your suggestions at 48 mins, of which I probably prefer The Me, Myself, I Generation. From what I've gleaned, it does seem to be about ego and attitude towards relationships. A pretty devilish term to translate! // Glad to be among fellow geeks! :)

That's the whole challenge! I LOVE it! but it also goes to show how absolutely VITAL context and background information are to an accurate translation.
agree BrigitteHilgner : "Me First Generation" is my favourite expression.

undateable?

Just an idea, although I guess the word is probably referring to a relationship, in which case I can't really think of any succinct way of saying it. 'Incapable of forming a relationship with' is the best I can come up with, but I'm not completely happy with it.

neutral Ed Ashley : I really want to like this, but I think it says more about how inherently undateable a person is, and less about their outlook on life and attitude towards relationships, which seems to be the broader context. But perhaps I'm splitting hairs!

antisocial, unsociable, withdrawn

It means incapable of bonding, but that's not very snappy. It would be useful to have the sentence in which the expression occurs.

Nothing sexist about it. Many studies have shown the correlation between the relationships between fathers and daughters, and the difficulties the latter may have later on in building relationships with men.

Note from asker:
Sorry, but with the best will in the world, your second title sounds a tad sexist. Don't know if you meant it that way of course.
