Spanish term

salvando lo presente

Spanish to English Other Poetry & Literature Marvel (Rocket Raccoon)
Eris es un pirata
espacial y cazarrecompensas con
el que Groot y yo nos las vimos no
hace mucho. Lideraba toda una flota
con lo peor del Universo (salvando
lo presente), y nos dio caza a Groot
y a mí a lo largo y ancho de varios
sistemas solares, hasta que le dejé
bien claro que nadie le pone la
mano encima a mi compañero.
(Rocket Racoon makes this comment.)

Thank you!, Andy!
agree neilmac : I (grudgingly) agree this is the meaning, but don't think the target audience for this is "too young" - it's Guardians of the Galaxy, fun for kids of all ages :-)

present company excepted

Standard phrase in English, typically used parenthetically:
"Present company excepted" = excluding those who are here now.
"he's the hardest bargainer in the business, present company excepted of course"

"A common idiom used, when speaking to someone, to raise a general criticism and then amend it by saying "present company excepted"."

I've just noticed that Carol mentioned this in one of the comments above. Whatever the case, it's the first thing sprang to mind when I saw the query.

While I agree that most of the suggestions so far get the gist, "present company excepted" is the set phrase I'm most familiar with, often delivered with a expression or a wink to those present.
