Ich bin gerade verwirrt. In meinem Text finden die Sitzungen der neu eingerichteten Ausschüsse bi-weekly statt bzw. bi-annually mit Beteiligung der Geschäftsleitung.

Ist das jetzt vierzehntägig und alle zwei Jahre oder zweimal wöchentlich und zweimal jährlich?

Missverständlich Die Verwendung von bi-weekly und bi-annually ist leider keineswegs eindeutig; es können zweimal wöchentlich oder aber alle zwei Wochen und analog dazu zweilmal jährlich oder eben alle zwei Jahre gemeint sein. Falls der Kontext keine absolute Klarheit schafft, würde ich unbedingt beim Kunden nachfragen, denn an Wörterbuchdefinitionen kann und darf man sich längst nicht mehr orientieren ...

Ich denke, es wäre ein starkes Stück, wenn die Geschäftsleitung bloss alle zwei Jahre sich an was auch immer beteiligt!

To the UK ENS, 'bi-weekly' is more likely to be understood as "twice a week"; 'bi-annually as "twice a year".

It does appear to be another of those irritating UK - US differences. Chambers 20th century dictionary gives the definitions I quote above, while M-W gives the other definition for 'bi-weekly', but the above one for 'bi-annually'. So it's obviously the US usage which is confusing things.

We do have perfectly good alternatives for "every two" in "fortnightly" (for 'every two weeks') and "biennially" for every two years.

So the answer is, as so often, ask the customer what is meant.

And unfortunately, Coqueiro's link merely adds to the confusion...

beim Kunden nachfragen Es ist wahrscheinlich, dass hier mit "bi-annually" "zweimal im Jahr" gemeint ist. Aber, nichts Genaues weiß man nicht ;)

Wie Coqueiro und auch der Link belegen, gab es mal eine eindeutige Übersetzung, die mittlerweile einer nicht eindeutigen gewichen ist - sprich: zu viele Leute nutzen "bi-weekly" für "twice a week". Insofern hilft eigentlich in dem Fall nur eine Nachfrage beim Auftraggeber um eine Falschübersetzung zu vermeiden.

Wollte ich eigentlich, aber da war Proz schneller. Ich hab mich für die wahrscheinlichste Variante alle zwei Wochen / zwei Mal im Jahr entschieden und der Kunde hat sich bislang nicht beschwert.

The Oxford dictionary lists bi-weekly as both : occurring twice a week as well as every two weeks, whereas bi-annual has just one meaning

David: The question was "bi-weekly/bi-annually". My answer is "alle zwei Wochen/halbjärlich oder zweimal im Jahr" . I don't understand your objections. My explanation was only about "bi-weekly" since it inherently ambiguous and can have two meanings
