Definition from
CENGAGE Learning:
The hypothesis, proposed by Alfred Wegener, that today's continents broke off from a single supercontinent and then plowed through the ocean floors into their present positions. This explanation of the shapes and locations of Earth's current continents evolved into the theory of plate tectonics.
Example sentences:
Wegener's Continental Drift theory was not readily accepted by the science community of his day. It was difficult to conceive of large continents plowing through the sea floor to move to new locations. (kids.earth.nasa.gov)
The fossil record supports and gives credence to the theories of continental drift and plate tectonics. (enchantedlearning.com)
According to the continental drift theory, the supercontinent Pangaea began to break up about 225-200 million years ago, eventually fragmenting into the continents as we know them today. (USGS)

Definition from
Wikipedia:

(Wikidedia)

Note from asker:
It's not in Reverso or DRAE. Could it be a typo? And is the similarity to "butcher" coincidental? |
Well spotted! I'd guess that it refers to a "butcher knife" - I'm thinking of the larger type I just call a "chopper", or maybe a "whet/whetting/sharpening stone", although that would come under "afiladores". It's not in my technology dictionary, which usually has all sorts of recondite items. |
Probably "hachas", see here for example: http://148.206.53.233/tesiuami/UACH21626.pdf Cuchillos, chairas, hachas, guantes de malla, etc. |
It could well be "hachas" as Toni mentions or something completely different as not all the tools mentioned are cutting tools. (chairas y afiladores). Your best bet would be to contact your client. |
Thank you everyone, I had a feeling that this was a typo but I did not know what to look for so your expertise is most appreciated. |
I am sorry I incorrectly selected your answer when I meant to select the other one. I have been told that the only way to rectify this is if you agree to submit a support request asking for the answer to be ungraded. I apologise for this, my only explanation is that I am homeschooling my children and was distracted. I will leave it to you to decide. |

: Gesucht wird "continental drift" daher gehört "Theorie" hier nicht her. Zudem entstand die Theorie der Plattentektonik erst ca. 50 Jahre nach Wegeners Theorie (~30 Jahre nach seinem Tod) und aus dieser.
