Okay, nach der Zusatzinformation ist klar, dass ich den Zusammenhang vorher ganz falsch verstanden habe. Ich glaube, in diesem Fall handelt es sich um im Gegensatz zur Fachliteratur um "nicht wissenschaftlich belegte/belegbare Literatur".

Why not go back to the roots? Maybe this helps: anecdotal derives from the greek word anekdoton, which means it is "not published"/"nicht herausgegeben". Okay, weird use for a dental practice, but that's how I came to make my suggestion (below).

"... to costs could be obtained by way of funny stories"??? Is that REALLY what it says? My understanding of "anecdotally" (and my dictionary's, for the matter of that!) means that its use here is unusual to say the very least...What is the exact context?
