I am currently translating a company brochure for a company that develops and sells testing equipment for the pharmaceutical industry. One of the products is called an "aerosol challenge test unit". As I understand it, breathing air, e.g. in a work environment, is tested with aerosols in order to know, if the air is breathable at the work place or must be treated somehow.
Example sentence:
"The aerosol challenge test is fully correlated to aerosolized B.diminuta, B.subtilis and Enterobacteria phage MS2 challenges and is a recommended test methodology in the “PDA’s Sterilizing Filtration of Air – Technical Report #40”."
I have got problems here in understanding the part of aerosol challenge". Does it simply mean something like "Luftreinheitsprüfung mit Prüfaerosolen"?
Ich wäre dankbar für jeden Hinweis.

In einer Phase-I/II-Studie wurden Patienten mit allergischem Asthma sowohl unspezifischen als auch spezifischen Allergen-Provokationstests unterzogen; dabei wurden die forcierten exspiratorischen Stickstoffmonoxid-Konzentrationen (FENO) bestimmt. Es wurde das Aerosol-Provokationssystem gewählt, da es sowohl die methacholin- als auch die allergenspezifische Provokation erleichtert.
