Norwegian term

ansvar for vedlikehold

Norwegian to English Law/Patents Law: Contract(s) anlegg
I en avtale om montasje av et anlegg står det sidenummer, dato, og begrepet 'ansvar for vedlikehold:' og firmanavn som er ansvarlig, men jeg forstår ikke hva som vedlikeholdet kan bety i denne sammenhengen. Viser det til vedlikeholdet av anlegget eller avtalten eller hva?

Discussion

Diarmuid Kennan Jul 10, 2012:
IATE In my experience, vedlikehold is mostly used in the sense to physically maintain something, which in this case would apply to the installation.
Sometimes it is useful to use IATE for translation of Norwegian terms, by changing the spelling to Danish (vedligeholde). Naturally, it is not entirely reliable, but is sometimes useful as a suggestion.
Katarzyna Lewandowska, PhD (asker) Jul 10, 2012:
I actually need to translate it into Polish, but as no NO-PL dictionaries are available, I need to use English as the reference language here (more translators know the NO-EN combination as NO-PL). The word maintanenance in Polish means either to preserve or to support financially (this is why I ask what the phrase refers to).
Christopher Schröder Jul 10, 2012:
Sounds like the agreement from your context, but wouldn't "maintenance" cover both eventualities?

Since the agreement concerns "montasje av et anlegg", I would definitely expect that the maintenance here refers to the "anlegg", unless something else is indicated in the text.
Note from asker:
maintenance of what? the agreement? the installation?
