On land or sea? If we are actually talking about something on a house, then here is corroboration for Svein -- http://www.haarsager.org/stadsbygd/bumerker.html. In that case , he deserves points for his response and should post it as an answer to get them.

On the other hand, if we're talking about some machine translation of "bow markings" on a vessel, then it's "baugmerke" and not "bumerke" in Norwegian. I can imagine Google Translate erroneously translating as "bumerke" via "bow".

Bumerke on boats It depends it bit about how old the boats are. I have, by googling "bumerke+boat" found a lot of contexts. Bumerke is an ownership mark or property mark. Why should it not apply to boats or parts of boats? Originally "bumerke" was used by illiterate persons.
