Hello,
can somebody give me some quick information on this?

Is DéjàVu able to import:
- Whole sdlppx packages?

If not: I know it can import SDLXLIFF files, but can it import also directly sdltm translation memories?
Do the SDLXLIFF have to be presegmented to be able to be imported into DéjàVu?

Are there generally known problems with the exchange of Trados 2009-2011 projects?

Thanks a lot for sharing experience on this.

Unzip it? Feb 22, 2013

As far as I know, sdlppx files are just simple zip archives, so just unzip it and take what you need.

It is about licence Feb 22, 2013

The fact is that I want to live completely without Trados: I don't want to pay a licence only to use it as a presegmentation and conversion tool. Also, customers are mostly not willing to deliver presegmented SDLXILIFF files and to convert the TM to TMX to their language providers.
I am looking for a solution that makes me completely independent of Trados.

Wolfgang already suggested it: Feb 22, 2013

...take WINRAR to unzip the package, take the sdlxliff file and process it in DV as it is. But without Studio you cannot process the TM, neither by integrate it into DV nor by making an export (.tmx), so for the TM you have to ask for another solution to process it.

Presegmentation is a thing of the past Feb 22, 2013

Unless TTX or DOC/RTF files, SDLXLIFF files do not have to be presegmented anymore. Just remember to take them from the target folder.
As for the TM, I am afraid that Matthias is right. If your client is unwilling to supply you with a TMX export (which should be the exception), you will probably have to find a helpful colleague willing to do this for you. Few caveats Feb 22, 2013

Wolfgang Jörissen wrote:

Yep.
Nonetheless, it was reported some nasty SDLXLIFF files need some preprocessing i.e. it's necessary to copy source to target, otherwise some segments may be lost.
Personally, I never experienced this problem.

DVX may also have problems with SDLXLIFF files created from "legacy" MS Office formats (e.g. .doc).
These files are malformed i.e. they contain illegal XML characters kinda , or similar, it's necessary to delete 'em before importing in DVX (use a decent text editor like Notepad++ or similar).

If necessary, I have Pro, so I can handle all languages.

Cheers

Actually, you can:

Line breaks in SDLXLIFF produce fuzzy matches in DVX Feb 25, 2013

Hello Geneviève.

If you process Powerpoint files from SDLXLIFF in DVX, you sometimes have line breaks inside a SDLXLIFF segment, which are not exactly reproduced in DVX2. so you may have a fuzzy match with the1st half of your segment in DVX2, the 2nd half of the segment may be not recognized.
