Traduction - anglais At 25, Alexander the Great conquered Babylon. At 29, Edward Snowden boarded a plane to Hong Kong. For a filmmaker, particularly Oliver Stone, switching from one character to the other requires some tinkering. From Salvador (1986) to Savages (2012), on to Wall Street (2010) and Alexander (2004), Stone transforms himself into a true conjurer of the outrageous, risking arrogance and ridicule.
Now in his seventies, the ex-Hollywood bad boy has turned his attention to a modern hero with none of the archetypal traits of his usual characters. Edward Snowden is neither ambitious nor passionate. He is your average Joe whose life took an extraordinary turn; abandoning work, family and country, to leak government secrets which he comes into contact with accidentally to the public.
The focus and limits of Snowden, the fictional film by Oliver Stone, based on these events. It transforms the efforts exerted by the director to capture the humility of its subject. Void of hyperbole, violence, and power struggle, the film depicts the introspective journey of a young technocrat. The self-control demonstrated by Stone commands respect, but the style of the narrative is not his own, and Snowden, in the end doesn’t quite find the right rhythm or scope to complement its elusive hero.
