I seem to have a problem with saving the file as a Word document (.docx). I just wanted to check how far I was in my work by saving it as a Word file with “Save target as”, but than I receive the message “The target document cannot be created because the tag structure in the TagEditor document is invalid.”

This is a large file and I haven't encountered any problems with smaller files so far. I use Trados 2007 Suite Freelance.

Thanks a lot!

I think that with docx files you need to have the original docx file in the same folder the *.ttx file is.

Hi Claudia,

thanks for your help. Both the .docx file and the .ttx file are in the same file, so that couldn't be the problem.

File modified? Tags missing or added? Jan 15, 2009

Hi Willeke,

Did you check the integrity of the tags in your translated segments? Are there tags missing or even tags added? The order of tags is important too.

Also, was the original file (the one you used to create the TTX file) modified in any way possible since you created the TTX file? The slightest little change can affect the file conversion to its original format...

I'd suggest you check the integrity of the tags and if everything is ok, try to go back to your original file and create a new TTX. You can then translate your text using the Translate to Fuzzy function.

Groetjes,

Marie-Claude

It's not working Jan 15, 2009

I checked the integrity, I even have the tag protection on so that shuldn't be a problem, all tags are correct. I adjusted some of them and I now get the message "error while converting to word document", atferwards it still hasn't saved the document as a .docx file.

Cheers,

Willeke

New file Jan 15, 2009

Did you try creating a new TTX with your original file, and re-translating using Translate to Fuzzy?

Edit to add: You can also open your original file, save it as .rtf, re-open it and then save it again as .doc. Open in TagEditor and translate to fuzzy.

TagEditor version Jan 15, 2009

Confirm that your TagEditor version is correct. If you have installed two different versions maybe you are using the wrong one. Only if you use SDL Trados 2007 will be able to translate a *.docx file.
Hope this helps....

TagEditor version Jan 16, 2009

I didn't success so far. I use Trandos 2007 Freelance and FP2, I didn't install two versions or something like that. I also tried creating a new file and translating it once again, but that didn't help either.

Same problem with Studio 2009 Apr 19, 2010

I had exactly the same problem with Studio 2009 - average .docx file of some 25 000 characters, but a number of hyperlinks were embedded, which it seems Studio was unable to tag properly. Fortunately, in this case the same solution worked - after conversion to .doc format the problem disappeared.

Just had the same problem and your solution worked in Studio 2007 for me, too.

I worked on Studio 2009 and had the same problem. I tried to follow your instructions but while 'saving target as' the scrolldown menu did not show any other options but docx.
The file won't convert into docx, as the error repeatedly appears.
Do I have to save the document as doc before I translate it?

Will be grateful for any suggestions.

TagEditor error Aug 17, 2010

I avoid using TagEditor these days since the error above occurs frequently. If I need to use it, I use TagEditor QA checking for tag mistakes and mend them before cleaning the TTX file. I discover that certain characters/symbol can also cause mistake as written above as well e.g. "" newly inserted in the target segments. After cleaning, I manually repair the missed symbol to avoid errors.

Best regards,

I sorted it out Oct 1, 2010

I received a bilingual docx documento from a colleague which was not dealt with in TradosTag but in Word linked to Translator's Workbench. I could not clean it in TW (I have Trados Studio 2007), the same error as yours appeared.
So I decided to save the bilingual as .doc, and clean it like that. It worked on well.
I hope this tip can help others.
