For more formal training in simultaneous, look into the ATA, National Consortium for State Courts, and National Center for Interpreter Training workshops and seminars. The University of Arizona also offers training sessions, and the Monterey Institute of International studies has short courses from time to time.

In the US, especially where Spanish is concerned, A/B is the rule, from hospitals up to conferences. There certainly is a difference between interpreting into one's A vs. a B. When I am working with a Spanish-dominant interpreter, we always try to arrange ourselves accordingly. But like Henry Hinds stated above, there is never a guarantee. ▲ Collapse | | | Cyril Flerov ЗША Local time: 17:24 англійская → руская + ... Simul into B is a must for some languages | May 22, 2011 |
On the Russian market doing simul into B is a must. In my experience it is quite possible to do it and teach it as well. I ll not go as far as the "Soviet school" arguing that simul into B is actually more accurate but it is a skill that quite can be developed.

For passing the Consortium Exam, you'll need to interpret simultaneously from English into Spanish, and consecutive both directions. But it's a good idea to learn to do it both ways simultaneously, too, because that's what you'll be asked to do in real life. If you plan to interpret at the depositions, you need to know that many attorneys will expect you to interpret simultaneously - it's faster. Not all, though - some attorneys specifically asked me to use consecutive mode. It's good to be prepared for both.
Simultaneous interpreting into any language used to terrify me. I overcame it with lots and lots of practice over the years (I can even estimate how many hours I put into it over the year). Now I am quite comfortable interpreting simultaneously into Spanish (my C language).
You can do it, too, if you have patience and determination. Good luck to you! ▲ Collapse | | | Luke Mersh Вялікабрытанія Local time: 01:24 іспанская → англійская "Simultaneous interpretation into your non-native language | Aug 22, 2011 |

- My A Language/native language;
- My BA Language/ biactive second language;
- My BR Language/ retour language between A and B;
- My P Language/passive language.
None of these fields can be left blank. Now, according to my research, “biactive” and “retour” language are usually synonyms (https://books.google.be/books?id=FniCAgAAQBAJ&pg=PT157&lpg=PT157&dq=biactive%20language%20interpretation&source=bl&ots=mFRnL3l3Ai&sig=2z22guHDzBlRU9TzvYxFIuHqnyY&hl=it&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiI2ebXjNTLAhWHxRQKHcGZA8UQ6AEIVjAH#v=onepage&q=biactive%20language%20interpretation&f=false , just to quote one of my sources). The only interpretation I can give of the terms used by the agency is:
- “BA language” should be the foreign language into which I interpret, in other words what is worldwide known as “B language”;
- “BR” language is the language, chosen between the “A” and the “BA” language, into which I interpret, but different from my native language – so, it is my “B language” again.
Still, it doesn’t make so much sense to me…has anyone of you ever read the terms above? I googled “BA language” and “BR language” and couldn’t get any result…
