Hello,

What are your fees for medical translations per word?

What about MTPE? I get lately more requests for MTPE.

Did you find that having an MD degree raises fees?

Thank you

First, I am not an MD. I am an engineer with two graduate degrees. To answer your last question, having a degree in a field will make you stand out from the crowd, which will probably lead to a higher demand for your services, which in turn might translate into higher fees (at least marginally).

That is why it is important to have a ProZ profile that showcases your education and background.

I would charge $.10 - $.15 per target word, depending on the complexity of the text. Some projects are easier and less technical than other projects.

Having an MD degree is no guarantee of a good translation. When I hear some MDs speaking English, I'm struck by how some of them are ignorant of correct grammar. They don't learn that in medical school, right?

Fees Aug 16, 2023

My fees for medical translations start at 0.13 EUR. I have no standard fee, as it all depends on the subject matter. I never accept a job without having first a good look at the document to be translated as I’m knowledgeable at some subject matters, while others I won’t touch with a ten-foot pole. I don’t do MTPE, I’m at the end of my career and I only accept jobs I find enjoyable. As others have said, being a MD is no guarantee of a good translation. Some years ago, I was engaged by a w... I don’t do MTPE, I’m at the end of my career and I only accept jobs I find enjoyable. As others have said, being a MD is no guarantee of a good translation. Some years ago, I was engaged by a well-known American publisher house to translate an Obstetrics Handbook, which would be reviewed by a medical doctor. The problem was that each time she corrected the translation she also made grammar and orthographic mistakes, so I had to re-read everything again…Collapse

I have similar questions Aug 18, 2023

I've been pondering, too, the best way to approach translation agencies and discuss the potential for a higher rate.

For example, I'm compensated at a rate of 0.05 euros per word for translation and 15 euros per hour for editing through an international agency for medical translations. Do you think this might be on the lower side? By the way, I do hold a medical degree, and I'm based in Eastern Europe, also, I've been involved in medical translation for over a decade.

1. How does your compensation from agencies (like multinational language providers) compare?

2. Considering my years of experience working with this specific agency, what would be the most effective approach or strategy to get a higher rate?

I appreciate your forthcoming insights.
