Save XLF file in to a computer

Hi. I just wonder if somebody here can help me out.

I received English XLF file that should be translated in to Japanese.
I could not open the original file with my computer but could open with Trados so I started translating.

After the translation done, I could save it in to my computer however I cannot open correctly.
To open with Excel and Word cannot show the contents and showing error message.
To open with note pad.....it doesn't show Japanese c... See more

My agency also cannot open the file which I sent to them.
I have sent also the file in sdl.xliff and the agency tried to open it with Trados but Japanese characters are not showing correctly.

Does anybody know how to handle this issue?
I would really appreciate if somebody can help me.

If there was a problem with the original source file perhaps you should not have started translating it? Maybe the best thing to do is see if your client can fix the problem with the original source file and then you can pretranslate a fixed file from your Translation Memory.

I'm not sure what else to suggest... maybe someone else has a better idea?
