Hello,
I'm a novice translator and I'm trying to learn Trados 2015 (Freelance). Unfortunately I've run into several problems:
1. I created a short sample text and translated it, but I can't figure out how to finish it. I was able to advance the draft to "translated" and "reviewed," but not "signed-off." Is it necessary to do this step? The options for "publish project," and "create return package" are gray, so it seems there's nothing I can do with a project once I'... See more Hello,
I'm a novice translator and I'm trying to learn Trados 2015 (Freelance). Unfortunately I've run into several problems:
1. I created a short sample text and translated it, but I can't figure out how to finish it. I was able to advance the draft to "translated" and "reviewed," but not "signed-off." Is it necessary to do this step? The options for "publish project," and "create return package" are gray, so it seems there's nothing I can do with a project once I'm done translating and reviewing the segments. I can't even delete it.
2. I can't close Trados. I get an error saying "Cannot set the active view to a view that is disabled or not available."
3. I tried out the alignment feature using an old translation. The source document and translated document loaded just fine, but the segment connections are all wrong. Unfortunately I can't fix the connections because the options to connect and disconnect are gray. I can check boxes next to segments that aren't connected, but that's all I can do with them.
4. After translating the practice text, I tried to create an empty TM and update it with the translation I just made. However I see no way to do this. I realize now I should have created the TM before the project, but I was able to add the new TM to the project just fine. The problem is that there's no way to update the TM with the segments I've translated.
Any help would be appreciated. ▲ Collapse | | | Roy Oestensen Данія Local time: 15:05 Член (ад 2010) англійская → нарвежская (букмол) + ... You are probably used to a different CAT tool from Studio | Dec 15, 2017 |
1. Since you expect a "Sign off" status, it sounds to me like you are used to a different tool. Perhaps you could tell us which, so we may be able to help you better?

When you translate a document in Studio, it is sufficient to have the segments marked as translated. Reviewed would mean that a proofreader would review your translation, so no need for that.
After you are finished with the translation, if this is a project you yourself have created, you right click on the project in the Projects window, choose Batch tasks > Update main translation memories
After that I would choose Batch tasks > Generate target translations
And then I should be finished.
Of course, there are other possibilities too - often you would receive a translation package from the customer, in which case you would return a translated package to the customer, but I won't dwell with that now.
2. I have never seen this message, so it may be due to some step you have done, I don't know.
3. It's a long time since I used the alignment function, but I thought it was rather straightforward, so I cannot help you there.
4. To connect a TM you would choose the project you are interested in, go to Home on the ribbon > Project settings > Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Translation memory and Automated Translation > Use > File based translation memory and then you choose the TM you have created.
I hope some of the above will be of help.

Thank you for the reply. I decided to scrap my practice project and start over. This time the option for updating the main translation memory was available. Also, I browsed Youtube and found that "export files" is the batch task I was looking for to complete my translation. I don't think it will work since the connect and disconnect options are unavailable; but since I'll be using Trados for all future translations I can build up my TMs pretty well without my old translations. ▲ Collapse | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Unable to Close Trados 2015; Unable to Edit Alignment Anycount & Translation Office 3000 | Translation Office 3000
