Not in a program, but as a translator I’m always learning new things and most of my CPD is done on a daily basis. However some large translation projects I have been doing require me to update and refresh my knowledge about specific topics (labour rights, LGBT rights, racism, xenophobia, migration, extradition, wasting and stunting, green growth…) and I have been studying these informally on my own, mainly through books and published documents. Besides that, some years ago I attended a summer course at Nova University in Lisbon on the formation of neologisms in modern Portuguese.Collapse

Don't get me wrong, education/development programs are a great way to develop the translator's vernacular and nuance/cultural awareness. However, what I really admire about this industry is the research aspect of it.

Searching through all sorts of references, asking fellow translators, and consulting people in the target field of the translation feels like our own version of a treasure hunt. This makes it all the more rewarding to find the exact term/ expression you were looking fo

You can’t improve on perfection.

But the tense used in this poll is a good example of the folly of perfection; the incorrect tense jars, yet everyone understands it, so does it matter?

This, exactly! And in my case, reading loads of non-fiction books about topics related directly or indirectly to my fields of expertise. It's not work or "official" CPD, but it helps a lot

This topic has come up a lot, Are staff at Proz trying to gently nudge us towards their training videos?

I started teaching translation techniques at the school I got my Master's from, but January 2020 wasn't the best moment to launch an academic career. I heard that the 2020-2021 year was going to be all-virtual, and checked right out.

Apart from that, and a few art history classes as much for fun as for learning, nope.
