I'm pretty much at the end of my career - in fact I reached retirement age a few years ago, but didn't realise it and kept on working and paying my self-employed Social Security contributions. Eventually the SS had to pay me back a couple of grand, which was nice for a change. Now, I only pay 30 € a month. Like most other translators, my work has dropped off a bit, but I still have enough to keep ticking over and not get bored.

All in all, my stress levels are pretty much okay, and apart from general health issues I'm just glad to be alive. (I've just returned from the funeral of a friend here, and he was 10 years younger than me)... ▲ Collapse

who also pay fair rates.
Apparently, most of us just want to do the work in peace and earn a decent income, not new "faster" and "more productive" tools (only 1 person of a 100 seems to care about those at the time of this post). How interesting!

No accounting work, no bureaucracy hassle, just pure and simple translation - this would be my working heaven.
A single project of 30kwords at €1000 per word would likely make my life easier.
"Likely" because I've never had to manage €30M for private purposes. Perhaps buying a couple of buildings, a few hundred square kilometers of arable land and one or two luxury resorts for renting would also generate more stress and complication than being a hunter gatherer in a rainforest.

I was joking. There is no reason to take this any more serious than I intended it to be. 😊

Why I don't think that translating is such a stressfull thing. I mean, it's much less stressful than skydiving or industrial climbing. The worst thing that can ever happen to you is to spill coffee on your keyboard...

Work has never stressed me out. In fact, what stresses me out is sometimes the lack of it.
On the question: it would be great if there were a cure for nerve-wracking Graves' disease, but I've been able to live with it.
To reduce stress and make my life easier, there's nothing better than being healthy and working! That's what I've always wished for.
