I haven't used IE for a couple of years now. I use Opera in Windows, and Safari in Mac. Both of them are a lot better, easier and faster than IE.

I use Google Chrome, SlimBrowser etc.
Reason: Fast and secured.
I use IE for some Microsoft websites when they demand IE.

Hi have just installed Google Chrome after this posting. It looks good! It installed quite quickly and --as far as I can see now-- it does not mess much with the system. I hope it works as expected!
Edited to add the following: Looking at Windows' task manager I see that Chrome weighs about the same as IE in the memory. However, it is true that it starts faster and you are up and running quickly.

I use GNU IceCat and Opera with Linux and Firefox and Opera with Windows not only for safety and security, but also for much better usability. I especially love IceCat/Firefox expandability with extensions. Who needs IE, when those brilliant programs are available?

I didn't even know so many programmes existed! As I don't know much about such things, I found IE quite OK (yes, you are allowed to hit me virtually...) but I really feel like trying something else after reading this thread! Thanks for the ideas!

But the most unsafe applicatios seems to be Firefox, at least that is what some experts claim:

The list, published in a research brief entitled “2008’s Popular Applications with Critical Vulnerabilities,” is designed to highlight the need for greater visibility and control over organizations’ endpoints, including laptops, PCs servers and Point-of-Sale systems.
The list this year expanded to include 12 applications, up from 10 last year, due to the increase in vulnerabilities and the popularity of applications such as Skype and Yahoo! Assistant that are often used by employees within an enterprise.
Five of the top 12 applications with known vulnerabilities include:
- Mozilla Firefox, versions 2.x and 3.x
- Adobe Acrobat, versions 8.1.2 and 8.1.1
- Microsoft Windows Live (MSN) Messenger, versions 4.7 and 5.1
- Apple iTunes, versions 3.2 and 3.1.2
- Skype, version 3.5.0.248

PS: I tried Opera, Firefox and Google Chrome yesterday (you can download them from IE), and have settled for Opera - much quicker that IE on my computer and has also seemed to resolved an irritating incompatibility problem I was having with one of my other programs.
