Dear colleagues,

since I installed two or three freeware tools (like olifant, notepad++, etc.) the start page of my browser is infected with "istartpageing", which is known as a browser-hijacker / malware.
All manual attempts to remove it from the browser and from the system failed and web searches show numerous entries with instructions to install more programms and I just do not know, which of these tools are trustworthy or not. Has anybody of you recently made a reliable ex... See more

I suggest, you turn for the advice to the Mozilla support. I have (in younger days) spent quite some time in the support group and know that there's barely a problem that does not yet have a solution. There a question for instance "https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1090273 - browser hijacker only in firefox" with syeven answers, 2 have the same problem, and the problem is marked solved.

It would also help, if you restart Firefox with add-ons disabled for started (see Help > Restart with Add-ons disabled)

Solution: Dec 3, 2015

...simply install "adwcleaner" (you were right, Adrien!), downloadable as shown above. A scan performed lead to the result, that my PC was infected with "CltMngSvc", which was erased then by that tool. Firefox is clean again. "adwcleaner" was also recommended by the customer service of my anti virus software. Hope, others can learn from this episode...
