Hehe, lucky us, right? ;P

I Googled that email address and got several hits, one of them was this website:

http://www.419baiter.com/_scam_emails/419_emails_07-05_3.html

It sure is a scam, one of the now known "419 Scams", after a Nigerian penal code, it seems.

That website reviews lots of these scams.

One might wonder why London-based "John Smith" has a South African e-mail address starting with "thomasking"

That must start alarm bells clanging if nothing else does.

I've won the lottery hundreds of times, in different countries. I also have lots of rich distant relatives who have died and left me money in their will.

Then there are the really creative ones. The ones that mention someone dying in an air crash, and give you a BBC link to an article about a real air crash to try and make it sound more realistic.

Seriously it is not so funny when you think of all those who fall for it.

The very moment at which such stories become no longer funny is when some people actually start taking such scams seriously. That's why they fall for it.
